Your Daily Dose Of Life Hacks

What's up life hackers,

Today I learned that astronauts Mark Lee and Jan Davis married in secret 9 months before their joint flight to the ISS and didn't tell NASA until it was too late to train replacements. They are the only married couple to have ever flown in space together.

Here's your daily dose of life hacks...

(2342) The Surprising Health Benefits Of Tetris

After the birth of the classic video game Tetris in 1984, there have been many studies geared towards the impact it has on our brains. One study showed the surprising health benefit it had on addiction. Whether it was nicotine, caffeine, alcohol, food, gaming or other things. Subjects were given iPod touches with Tetris installed. For the following weeks they were asked play the game several times per day, while being peppered with questions about their personal addiction. The study revealed that, without no further action being taken, their addictions had decreased by 14 percent.

Another use scientists have found for Tetris, is for treating patients with PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). A study found that letting patients play Tetris after a traumatic experience would stimulate and distract their brain enough to help them recover from something like a car crash. The visual stimulation the game has on our brains has also been proven to help wipe bad memories and prevent flashbacks.

(2343) Beat Boxing 101

Ever wondered how people make those incredible beat boxing sounds? Well, there's no easy trick, unfortunately it takes years of practice to be a professional beat boxer. But the easiest way to start, is with the word "boots" and the word "cats". If you start saying these words repeatedly and add some exaggerated lip movements, you'll have a solid foundation to start your beat boxing career.

(2344) Why You Should Smile When You're Feeling Down

Smiling is the universal sign of happiness, but it can also help us create happiness too. The muscles we use to smile are linked to our brain to work when our body receives a rush of neurotransmitters called Endorphins. But this process also works in reverse! You can release a big rush of Endorphins just by simply smiling. It's like tricking your brain into thinking it's happy, even when there's nothing actually making you happy. Not only do these endorphins help us out when we're feeling blue, but they have also been proven to reduce stress levels, which can help you out in any sort of anxious or nervy situation.
